The Story Behind the Event
In 2020, renowned Olympic track runner and Team Boss athlete Aisha Praught-Leer felt compelled to find a way to support social justice initiatives. After discovering the Sachs Foundation and our shared commitment to supporting Black communities and advancing racial equity, she and her team organized the first Team Boss Colorado Mile to raise funds towards our mission supporting Black Coloradans through education and community programs.
One story stood out: Dolphus Stroud, the first Sachs Foundation Scholar, faced racial discrimination while pursuing his dream of competing in the 1928 Olympic Trials. Despite being systematically denied opportunities and facing immense challenges on and off the track, Dolphus became the first official recipient of a Sachs Foundation Scholarship and graduated from Colorado College with honors. His legacy of perseverance as a scholar-athlete inspires us to support young athletes and scholars today through the Dolphus Stroud Named Scholarship.
In 2020, Team Boss raised $30,000 for the Sachs Foundation, establishing the Team Boss Equity Scholar — a named scholarship awarded in 2021 to William White IV, now a Vanderbilt University senior and aspiring orthopedic surgeon who founded his own sports non-profit to support underserved youth in Colorado Springs, served as a US Olympic Youth Champion Ambassador, and a track star in his own right.
Your participation and support enable us to expand our scholarship, mentorship, and teacher development programs supporting Black students and their families towards educational success through equitable opportunities.
Join Us for a Night of Fast Racing & Big Impact!
Come for the race, stay for the celebration. Cheer on the athletes, enjoy a family-friendly atmosphere, and be part of a community effort to make education accessible to all.
Register now and help us reach our goal to fund more scholarships for Colorado’s next generation of Black excellence!
“I believe in supporting equity, education, and opportunity as a pathway towards bettering everyone around us.“ — Aisha Praught-Leer, Team Boss Co-Founder, Track Olympian, & Social Justice Advocate
